"Thermos Song"
The Funny Lyrics: I'm picking out a thermos for you
Not an ordinary thermos, it's true But the extra best thermos money can buy With vinyl and stripes and custom right in Why They're Funny: This song was from the movie 'The Jerk,' with Steve Martin playing Navin R. Johnson. Basically I found the entire song funny. Even funnier was how it was referenced in the script. Late in the movie, Navin's girlfriend Marie (played by Bernadette Peters) laments their mammonistic lifestyle as newly rich entrepreneurs, longing for the days when he would sing her the Thermos Song. Hey Marie, remember what was going on when he sang the song? You were leaving him! Then at the end of the movie, Navin does pick out a thermos for Marie. Does it have vinyl and stripes and all that stuff? Sure it does. But is it the extra best thermos money can buy? Not if he got it in a trade for an ashtray, a cup and ball game, and a few other trinkets.
