The Lyrics

Current drug laws are really silly... not only do we waste lots of public money chasing down people who aren't criminals, but they end up giving even larger amounts of money to the last people in (or outside) society that you'd want to have that much money. On a purely economic basis, marijuana should be legalised... but there doesn't seem to be a politician out there who has the balls to tell it like it is :-(
They should legalise marijuana
Taxable income is too good to miss
But it's the bad guys now who get the money
No wonder they're growing more cannabis

Drug lords keep on earning
Mary Jane keep on burning
Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer

Heard a lot of rubbish talked about it
Men who're uptight, straight and smug
But I never believed a thing they tell me
Cannabis ain't no gateway drug

Drug lords keep on earning
Mary Jane keep on burning
Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer

It's time to get ourselves a movement
Motivate ourselves to get off our butts
The government won't do nothing about it
You know the politicians ain't got no guts

Drug lords keep on earning
Mary Jane keep on burning
Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer
Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer

Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer
Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer
Rollin', rollin', rollin' another reefer

Was this based on my question on the message board asking if "proud mary" was really about pot? lol
Phil Alexander - June 04, 2003 - Report this comment
Not directly - more on the "Should marijuana be legalized" thread on the messageboard: though the "rollin' another reefer" line's been in my head for a while now

To each his own, But I must agree with the assumtion that Law Enforcement must have more importiant work, that busting potheads.

Good job with a situation that's actually not funny at all. Personally I'd like to see everything legalized so police forces can focus their limited resources on people who actually victimize others.
Phil Alexander - June 06, 2003 - Report this comment
Claude, that's pretty much my position, too - in addition to the police time argument, there's too much money going to the wrong people:- but the song's only about the marijuana side because of the Proud Mary/Mary Jane transposition.

Drug dealers do victimize others. Get your head outta your a**.
Claude Prez - February 23, 2004 - Report this comment
Feel free to back up your statement, Joe. How is one a "victim" in a mutually beneficial voluntary transaction?
Phil Alexander - February 25, 2004 - Report this comment
Joe - try removing your own head from your own orifice, engage your brain and read what I'm saying in this parody. If you were actually to think about it, you'd realize your comment is another argument for legalisation and licensing of all narcotics.
Shawn Calderone - December 05, 2005 - Report this comment
Who cares. Mary Jane should be legalised because cops every were are wasting there time on busting stoners then catching murderers and shit like that

Er.. yes, Shawn. That, too...
