Hello Insects, my old friends
I'm here to study you again
I find your lifestyle fascinating.
Worth the patience and the waiting,
And comparable to links of human chain,
Intrigues the brain,
The mystic sounds of soil ants

Each hollowed cavern trailing proves
Clever and progressive moves
Through the earth around us, they scamp
Choosing existence where it's cold and damp
On the crumbs and the morsels, humans drop,
They will imbibe,
As I transcribe,
The unique sounds of soil ants

They tap their tails against the nest
To signal danger to the rest
Others rub their bods together
And create a buzzing noise..
Ways to ask their friends
For aid transporting food..
To feed their brood,
They make the sounds of soil ants

"Fools" think we, their fate is doom
When invading human's room
Every spring, so vulnerable,
Seeking shelter, finding trouble
All a part of nature's way to nest
Such interesting pests,
These soil ants..

Might we not learn from them,
If our doomsday finds a stem,
With a nuclear arrival ?
Then underground may be survival..
We could be small to alien giants..
Precisely why I record and read,
A message we need
It's somewhere in the sounds of soil ants
