Original Song Title:
"The Shape I'm In"
Parody Song Title:
"Jamaica Inn"
The Lyrics
In that country, “green” are the valleys,
But this song is about brigands and galleys.
Yo-ho-ho-ho, Jamaica Inn.
The Inn’s run by Joss[1] and his lady,[2]
And these two have shown, they’re kind of shady.
Up Mary[3] shows. . .Jamaica Inn.
Joss’s pals go down by the water—
That’s where ships they have sunken, yo-ho!
They lure the ships on to the breakers.
Is this group of guys beneficent? No!
Mary saves life of Mate Trehearne,
Hung high by the churls; now he’s got a nape burn.
So, they both blow Jamaica Inn.
They escape to Sir Humphrey’s swell house;
He seems nice, but it just isn’t so.
Before long it’s they truth they meet
Humphrey is running the shipwrecking show!
“Save our necks; we’re in trouble!”
To Humphrey pleaded the couple
Woe! Now they know what shape they’re in.
Later, Sir Humphrey has got bupkes
In a ship’s rigging, he won’t give up; pest
Throws self below—bad shape he’s in.
Boat’s deck is oak. Jam’s made of him.
