The Lyrics

This is the third swithcheroo parody we have done. For the uninitiated, a switcheroo is where the story of one song is told to the rhyme structure of another - in this case The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" is told to the tune of "Eleanor" by The Turtles. This is the original Turtles song on YouTube

Looking at lonely people
Rice thrown in church (with steeple?)
Waits at the window, living all dreamy
Not her from song by Turtles
Really makes my brain hurtle
Wear face from jar, do, Eleanor Rigby

Eleanor now in grave you dwell
“No one’s saved” – must be in Hell!
In church died did say McKenzie
Eleanor, took to tomb your name
Leave to Beatles – give you fame
(C’lebrity puts girls in frenzy)

Man of the cloth is darning
Sermons: his flock is yawning
Isn’t your day now Father - rebuffedly
People lone not belongin’
People alone anon-in’
Song kinda snuffed you, Eleanor, roughly

Immortal in a song you dwell
As for spelling, who can tell?
Lonely hoi polloi beset ya
Eleanor, lonely people, spyin’
But was you that ended dyin’
Turtles had you doing better!

Elenore, Turtles think you're swell ah-hah
Eleanor, Beatles sing death knell ah-hah
Hah

This is another oldie that I completely forgot we did. It was fun reading it again. (FYI - we are currently writing, but releasing the older ones first before our new stuff).

Thanks you POP and JB for your votes and comments.

Merry & Pip - This made me howl... "Eleanor, roughly". This is one very hard trick to pull off doing parody in this fashion and no one does it better than you two.

Merry, I read your post on "We are Hillbilly" today and commented back my thanks. Again, fine writing here. Love the switcheroo-ness!

Couldn't pass this one up, of course! ...TMGLTM amidst overall brilliance of switching, but fave was "Lonely hoi polloi beset ya", esp. for matching not only "pride and joy" but also for matching probably the only time I can remember hearing "et cet'ra" in a pop song. Took years to understand that word, given the radio quality of the times ... Five? Or 5? Or V? Or 101? ....

Trivia: According to alvin's and Paul Robinson's initiation of Your Humble Servant into this genre, it was called a "smoosh". Or maybe it only qualified as that if one did it both ways on the same day, as they preached. Maybe follow up?

Some weirdo once smooshed two B7s, "Supercal" and "Maj-Gen" on the same day, then on the next posting day, smooshed "APie" and "TWOTEF". Also seen three songs smooshed in round-robin fashion (A > B > C > A), then six, then eight (A > B > ...... > H > A), also with each set done in the same day. Which merely proves that some people need to get a life. Hope you all have a better life than to waste your time like that nutcase did. Great job.

@ Guy: is this Doritos? If so, it's fabulous to see you back. If another Guy/guy, well, thanks so much for dropping by and commenting. :)

@TT: hoi polloi was Pip's line - he will be very happy with your reference to it. Smooshes are fun - we've only done a few and all were only 1/2. Honey and Wild Side - I think that is the total, plus this one. I'll have to check out that weirdo/nutcase too ;)

Wandlimb: Too true x 2!

Guy: Nice to see you, would love to see you back. Thanks for your kind comments!

Turtle: Yes! I am happy to see hoi polloi picked. Invariably, the Merry lines are the ones that get singled out for special mention. But of course, I'm not bitter !grin!
