Beer cans and plastic seen on the highway.
Sign by the road says: “No litter!” but they
throw out their papers, waste, and detritus.
When they get caught they are put in tethers,
get a court sentence: “Clean up the highway!”

Out on the roadbed, picking up Cheese Curls,
taking the litter off from bedrecked roads,
placing that litter in bags duly.
Doomed for their tossing out land-based flotsam.
Really, it’s jetsam.

They’re not overjoyed now their little world
is to scoop up people’s crap that’s hurled
out from car windows; not even squirr’ls
stoop to retrieve this blight…abjure the mess.
Roadwork will continue till judge says “no longer.”
