The Lyrics

I guess no explanation is really needed here, is it?
(Guitar intro)

Corporate Raider, why did you take away my job?
I just don't see what I can do now for money
Was making decent pay, enough to live on anyway
You took my job and you know that just wasn't funny

Isn't that the way that business goes? You've got to trim the fat
So go get a job now, if you can find one
Down at the new mall or perhaps on-line, and you know
You won't make too much dough, your stocks you'll have to sell
You'll have to mow your lawn and wash the car yourself
It's a real bad deal, I sure don't like how it feels

(Instrumental break)

Corporate Raider, where will I find another job?
I won't get by long on the severance that you just gave me
There's things I need to buy, and now the prices seem quite high
I don't think job retraining is gonna save me

Isn't that the way that business goes? You've got to trim the fat
You must get a job now if you can find one
Maybe at the mall or at "Burger Fryer", and you know
You won't make too much dough, no benefits as well
You might just lose your home, and walk to work as well
I don't like how this feels, this sure is a lousy deal
No, no, no, no - sure is a lousy deal

Corporate Raider, don't know if I will find a job
No one seems to want anything that I can do
The stuff you do's a crime; you should be in jail doing time
Screwed me in my prime

Isn't that the way that business goes? You've got to trim the fat
Where is there a job now? I sure can't find one
I call all around but there's none I can find, none I know
My unemployment's gone, my bank account as well
I'm very close to broke, got nothing left to sell
Hope I don't have to steal; I can't pay for my next meal

(Instrumentals to end)

I can relate to this. My husband was laid off from Boeing after being there 14 years (due to outsourcing) and is still looking for work. But we haven't resorted to washing our own cars yet. 5-5-5

Excellent parody, Paul. It is definitely appropriate to parody big business for sometimes seeming insensitive, but job losses are always going to happen (even in a growing economy) and the pain they cause is relatively short term. On the other hand, government never seems to "trim the fat," and taxpayers keep paying and paying and paying. Anyway, I hope that this is not autobiographical, Paul.

Good parody and good message Paul! I had a friend who had a high-paying allegedly 'secure' job for 20 years, and was suddenly 'downsized' about a year ago. He and his wife had 10 children, so it was very scary. Fortunately he managed to find another job one week before the severence pay ran out.

Jan, John J. & Meriadoc - Thanks all! John - it's only partially biographical; I DID get laid-off at the end of the year after 6 years doing Tax Technical Support for a major Tax Software producer - our entire department was told after the 2003 Tax Season that the Phone Center would be moved to Wichita, KS and we would be laid off incrementally between that point and June, 2004. They will save about 25% annually on salaries + they are dumping some folks in the higher ranges and hiring new people at beginning rates for that position and also using more Seasonal temporaries instead of full-year, full-time employees. But I'm not in a bad position personally. I know what you are saying but in this case I believe they have made a mistake, but that, of course is something only time will tell. I feel much worse for some of the people that were there 20+ years, and we did have a number of them. Jan, I sincerely hope the situation up there turns around. Meriadoc - the situation you describe would scare the CRAP out of me if I were in it...

Johnny D - Gee, I can't exactly recall, but I believe they were "Revered" for a brief time back then. hmmm...I remember "Kicks", but I can't recall much of anything else they did.
