Another old joke retold in song: a blatant plagiarism of Jake Thackray's excellent "Bantam Cock", but that's the only thing that stopped me writing something that would have been dreadfully libellous to Batman...

I was more amused by the 'every little swallow' remark. Call me a mentally demented mongo (my mum does) but I DON'T GET THE ENDING. Please enlighten my pathetic thickness!
's OK Jake - no demented mongo status required... the ending means the robin is playing dead, wanting the vultures to come down so that he do to them as he would do (and indeed has done) unto others, so to speak. I didn't have quite as many verses to play with as your namesake, so didn't have the space to make it blindingly obvious, I'm afraid.
Your stuff cracks me up! --555-- Phil, did you know that the original was done by Bobby Day (I had forgotten, had to Google) in 1958? A chart topper, of course, and it's flip "Over and Over" was huge, too. I notice that this site doesn't have a 50s category, just "misc", unless I'm missing something, I'm new here. Great job, man.
Thanks, Rod - though even the 60s section is a relatively recent development, made inevitable by the numbers of Beatles parodies submitted I guess. I remember "Over and Over" being played er.. repeatedly (though presumably not when it was originally released, as I wasn't born then - must have been re-released).
