The Lyrics

Global warming was declared by the IPCC on 2/2/2007 to be real and man-made; some remain skeptical. This parody looks at both sides. The 1958 lyrics at http://www.lyricsdepot.com/peggy-lee/fever.html include middle stanzas from The McCoys' 1965 version (but I omitted the yeahs). The "hockey stick" is one chart of historic temperatures.
Never know how much above you,
Greenhouse gases muster there,
Pen the sun's heat. Warmth surrounds me;
I get a fever that we all must share.
They give Earth fever, global warming,
Fever when they hold sunlight.
Fever we'll be mourning,
Fever all have to fight.

Sun lights up the day time,
Man lights up the night.
Walk light, else we are all to blame,
But I know we're gonna treat Earth right.
We give Earth fever, global warming,
Fever when we don't walk light.
Fever we'll be mourning,
Fever all have to fight. (NOW!!)

Everybody's bought the fever;
That is something you all know.
Fever isn't such a new thing;
Fever started long time ago.

Maybe turns out that sun's light
Can incline or de-
cline; lately burns high not low bright.
Some get too blind to see.
Swelling a little bit higher
And just a little bit brighter, maybe
Sun gives a fever that's gonna leave Earth;
Again a fever, and then a heat dearth.

Ice and snow loved cooling, yet
Ev'ry era, melting came.
Neither cold nor warm astound Earth
Until man, a babe, discovers flame.
Now drives this fever, men ambitious
Never heed those claiming sooth.
Fever must be dire
'fore an inconvenient truth.

Albert Gore and Heidi Cullen
Showed a very sad white bear.
When ice pad aside might spill him,
They cried madly "Oh won't you care?
"Adrift from fever, off he kisses!
"Ever then we'll scold with fright;
"Leave your highest wishes:
"Caddy, first-class seat in flight."

Now you've listened to their story;
Here's the point that they have made:
Flat Earth scorn; hockey-stick's fever's
Wee bit natural, more human-made.
Regive to fever, we'll dismiss you;
Never will you live and learn.
Fever will man fizzle;
Not a lovely way to burn.
Mustn't shove; yield neighbor's turn.
Ought to just say "nay" to burning;
Got Earth-friendly ways to learn.
If you sing this in public and people drop money, keep it; but drop a note to me at bjmitchel@att.net .

An important message here, Barry...delivered with not a small amount of finesse. Great job. 555

"But I know we're gonna treat Earth right." Somehow I doubt it. Wonderfully written, and although I wasn't "Cracking Up" or anything-the importance kinda outweighed the comedy and still earned top marks from me. . .good job John -badave
