The Lyrics

I bought a big aquarium at hobby shop in town
My buddy had a pick up, so he helped me haul it down
It held two hundred gallons, it was not a tiny tank
We got it on a hot day, all those gallons coulda' drank
(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha, they threw one in for free)

I didn't know too much about the fishy business
What not to put together, so I had to make a guess
I bought some snails and puffers, and guppies that would gup
An awful lotta; goldfish, 'cause I heard gold goes up
(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha, they threw one in for free)

I bought a dozen devilfish, six angels for suspense
Also a couple swordfish, will be fun to watch 'em fence
Then, I got a little sharky, 'cause I liked that movie, "Jaws"
I am real sure of one thing, won't feed him with my paws
(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha, they threw one in for free)

Instrumental interlude--------

(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha, they threw one in for free)

I hooked the garden hose up and the water poured in slow
Tossed in some rocks and green stuff, placed a shipwrecked hull below
Plugged in the pump, turned on the lights, stood back and gazed with pride
Now, comes dramatic moment, I dump the fish inside
(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha, they gave me one for free)

My friend and I were loaded from the case of beer we drank
So, he went home, I jumped in bed..my wife said, "Stop, you Skank!"
Next morning I remembered, that I forgot fish food
I ran to the aquarium, but gone was all my brood
(Except)
(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha, they gave me one for free)
(Piranha, Piranha, Piranha...ate all other fish-ee)

Loved it. Went thru' a brief bout of fish-keeping insanity in grad school. Very frustrating when eye-eating tetras kept killing the teesny crabs I liked to watch toddle 'round the tank-bottom. Same crabs tank-shared peacefully with same fish at the fish store. Even more frustrating, did have great success w/ angelfish and grew some big ones. Boarded them at fish store while in transit from school to lnext location. Returned to find out fish store guy had, lacking specific authorization to sell, declined someone's offer of at-the-time-big-bucks $50 apiece for the pair. Bah. Fish are for eating. :-)
