The Lyrics

US residents owe it to their 109th Congress that in 2005 expanded Daylight Saving Time from 7 to 8 months starting in 2007 (after an election). Whether this saves energy, as purposed in the law, was and is still controversial. So-called Standard Time now is in effect only 4 months out of 12! An overlooked hardship is that of a date-seeking single person, who knows that prospective mates and self look better in dim light, for which all must wait an extra hour or go indoors. I plead their cases using TOS as a template.
Heavenly shades of night are stalling; it's Daylight Time.
Watch on my wrist (poor choice) is bawling, "it's nigh night time."
When purple colored curtains mark time and delay,
I hear few might cheer for Daylight Time.

Deepening shadows are suspended, as day's not done;
Lingers the light till moon is blended with setting sun.
I count the moments, crawling, still to clearly see;
Ere winter is past, it's Daylight Time. [1]

Here as the afternoon gives way,
The evening long ensues beneath sky blue.
Nearly complete the lame old day,
I call on government, and cry (with pen):

Deep in November this was silly, [2] while days grew cold.
Lights in the dark March morning chill me, sun's gleams on hold.
This way to "save the planet" -- just don't see it through,
To get everlasting Daylight Time! [3]

[1] The only benefit is that Lent is one hour shorter. ;^)
[2] Children would prefer earlier darkness on Hallowe'en.
[3] This happened during World War II, called "War Time" then.

Interesting idea and neat match, perfectly subbed. 555. I didn't know the political background in the U.S. so thanks for enlightening.

When the concept was introduced in Australia in the mid-60s, the dairy farmers complained: 'Who's going to tell the cows to come in an hour later'. They say it never caught on in Japan (dawn appears around 4 a.m. in summer) because it's considered bad form for salarymen to leave their office until after dark. You'd think the bosses at least would be all for it.

.Something of a 'Platterfest' of late. I must try another.

Daylight Savings propounds the illusion that government is giving everyone more time. When, in fact, the fascists are ordering everyone to wake up an hour earlier. The whole thing started as a joke in an article by Benjamin Franklin, who never expected that his fantasy would be taken seriously. Millions of dollars lost, bodily rhythms disrupted. More traffic accidents, health problems. Totally stupid idea, but only the Russians have been smart enough to give it up. Maybe we should follow their example.

Definitely not a waste of time...good job...I think we should have a Nightlight Saving Time; the bulbs are too high, even at DG's.

BJM - Fine job here. Here's an alternative proposal: Move the Prime Meridian 15 degrees west for four months each year. BTW, I should have connected you with General Ormsby Mitchel (Old Stars) long ago due to the spelling of your last name (I'm a bit of a Civil War expert). :D

Lifeliver: Thanks for recounting the Australian & Japanese experiences with DST.
Patrick: Ah, sure-n-begorrah Congress's tweaking DST gets your Irish up. Mine too.
OMR: The British would never allow that. ;^) Thanks for the Civil War/Mitchel info.
