"Devoted To You"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: Darling you can count on me,
til the sun dries up the sea Why They're Nonsensical: Well if the sun gets that close, we'll all be dead! Imagine making out, and while doing so, the sun gets too close all of a sudden and crisps you to a cinder while still embraced. I guess it would be kind of like Mount Vesuvius. Even so, it doesn't make sense for them to suggest that.

| "Ebony Eyes"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: Then came the announcement over the loudspeaker:
'Would those having relatives or friends on flight number 1203 please report to the chapel across the street' Why They're Nonsensical: Across the street!? From where - the airport? Where exactly is this airport - in the middle of a city?

"Memories Are Made Of this"
The Insincere Lyrics: One man, one wife, one love, through life...
Why They're Insincere: There is no problem with the delivery of their version of the song. The problem with this line is a true life one---the boys have five, count 'em five ex-wives between them!Don is currently on his fourth wife, and Phil is on his third!Coming from them, with what we now know, that line is pretty funny!Cheers!

"Wake Up Little Susie"
The Dirty Lyrics: Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Weve both been sound asleep Wake up, little Susie and weep The movies over, its four oclock And were in trouble deep Wake up little Susie Wake up little Susie, well What are we gonna tell your mama What are we gonna tell your pa What are we gonna tell our friends When they say ooh-la-la Why They're Dirty: I don't think that this song is dirty at all, but I remember that my mother thought it was scandalous. She thought that they fell asleep after having sex. I just think that they fell asleep watching TV.

"Cathy's Clown"
The Lyrics: Don't want your love anymore.
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure. I die each time I hear this sound, "Here he comes, That's Cathy's Clown." Why: This is a story of a guy becoming an object of ridicule because the title Cathy has humiliated him with lies. When I heard it as a kid it stuck out in my mind as one of the most quirkily romantic tunes of the early sixties. Quirky, yes, because it does have a few points where a slightly downbeat note betrays the song's angst. But when I was a kid, that was easily overlooked and it still sticks in my mind as one of the most dreamily romantic tunes of the era, consistent with a notion I then had, not understanding most of the words, that any song about a clown must surely be cheerful. And even now that I understand the lyrics, the tune alone still seems predominantly upbeat, for all the angst being conveyed.
