Honeycombs | Have I The Right? | Have I the right to hold you You know I've always told you That we must never ever part oh ooh ooh oh | "Have I The Right?" was an American Top five hit from the second half of 1965 from the British Invasion group, Honeycombs. Honeycombs got their name from their drummer, one of the first lady drummers in rock 'n' roll history (although not the first), Honey Lantree (born Ann Margot Lantree). "Have I The Right?" spent 15 weeks at #1 in Britain in the Fall of 1964 and Honeycombs had as huge of following in their home country as did the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Kinks. Another key to Honeycombs success and the success and unique sound of "Have I The Right?" was the lead vocals of Dennis D'Ell (b. Denis James Dalziel 14 October 1943). D'Ell died on July 6, 2005. - Peter

Hues Corporation | Rock The Boat | So, I'd like to know where you got the notion, Said, I'd like to know where you got the notion, to rock the boat. | "Rock The Boat" a literal one-hit wonder #1 song from the summer of 1974 for the California trio known as the Hues Corporation (members: St. Clair Lee, Ann Kelley and Fleming Williams) marks a very important dividing line for pop/rock music of the 1970's. "Rock The Boat" considered by many people to be the first Disco song of the 1970's, came at just about the right time to spark the Disco era in the same summer that President Richard M. Nixon resigned because of the Watergate scandal and as people were leaving behind the struggles and protests sparked by the Vietnam War. And pop/rock music of the 1970's is clearly seen as being divided at when "Rock The Boat" reached the #1 spot for two weeks in the summer of 1974. For before that was still lingering sounds of music from the 1960's from Motown records, Atlantic records and the British Invasion led by the Beatles and the easy listening tunes from such artists as the Carpenters, and Bread -- while after "Rock The Boat" was pop/rock music that would define the last half of the 1970's of arena rock and disco. "Rock The Boat" also would be the beginning of how dance music would evolve not only during the last half of the 1970's but also into the 1980's, 1990's and the first decade of the twenty-first century. - Peter
