Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony | The Hustle | Ooooooh - Ooooooh - Ooooooh do it, Ooooooh - Ooooooh - Ooooooh do it, Ooooooh - Ooooooh - Ooooooh do it, Do the Hustle! | "The Hustle" was the biggest dance craze of the 1970's. "The Hustle" was a #1 record for Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony in the summer of 1975 and the dance that accompanied the tune became and instant success on the Disco dance floors of the time (and elsewhere as well) -- as late as 1978 "The Hustle" was the main dance to dance on Disco dance floors (until Chic's "Le Freak" took over -- a matter of fact it is "The Hustle" that John Travolta is dancing in the movie, "Saturday Night Fever"). It was Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony's only #1 tune and biggest hit. The opening "Ooooooh's, do it" are from the women backup singers, while the first "Do The Hustle!" is the men backup singers. Van McCoy had an all too brief life and would not survive into the 1980's, born in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 1940 as Van Allen Clinton McCoy, McCoy would die on July 6, 1979 from a heart attack at the age of 39 years old. - Peter | |||
