Song Names -> Song Titles Not Used as Lyrics -> T

Some songs have titles that aren't used in the lyrics, and end up becoming better known for their lyrics than their title. Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" is better known for the refrain "Everybody must get stoned" than it is for the title.

Tool Stinkfist Many radio stations found the title, which is not found within the song's lyrics, to be offensive. They had their air personalities introduce the song as "Song #1" (or something similar), because it was the first song on the "Aenima" CD. - Karen Black Sabbath
Tori Amos Professional Widow Honey bring it close to my lips, yeah! - Ben
The Toys A Lovers' Concerto "How gentle is the rain" is the first line, and I suppose, the lyrics most likely to be thought of as the title when one doesn't know the actual title, not found in the lyrics. - Thessaly Danes
Tracy Bonham Sharks Can't Sleep But it wasn't ok, no it wasn't ok - John Howarth
Traditional The Sans Day Carol "Sans" in the name of this carol of generally the Christmas season is an archaic word for "saint". Each verse of this carol begins "O the holly bears a berry", followed by, depending on which verse, either "as green as the grass", or "as white as the milk", etc. Each of four verses thus invokes a different color phase for holly berries, each with a simile comparing the color to that of something else. Never is the title mentioned in the lyrics, as it typical of titles of the form "The.............Carol". That opening line "O the holly bears a berry" probably is the lyric by which the song might best be known as if by an alternate title. It is sometimes in fact cited in parentheses with the title. - Mary Ann Brite
Traditional Coventry Carol Also known by its first line, "Bye-bye, thou little tiny child". The title "Coventry Carol" is nowhere in the lyrics. - Donna Rand Blitzen
Traditional America, The Beautiful Although it does mention America near the end and has the lyric "Oh Beautiful, for spacious skies", they are not sung together with " the". - Floyd DeBarber
Traditional Carol Of The Bells "Christmas is here, bringing good cheer...", "Ding, dong, ding, dong...".(usually accompanied by Christmas bells). - Santa
Traditional Battle Hymn Of The Republic "Mine eyes have seen the glory" (opening line) or "Glory, glory, Hallelujah" (opens each chorus) could either be the best know lyrics. The title certainly isn't in the lyrics. - Thessaly Danes
Traditional The Angels' Song "The Angels' Song" is in fact the original title given the song by its author, Edmund H. Sears, But today possibly few even know it by that title. It has become generally known by its first line, "It came upon the midnight clear". - Thessaly Danes
Traditional America Opening and best know line is "My country, 'tis of thee". In fact, that is often parenthetically attached to the title, most likely to distinguish it from "America The Beautiful" another song that also might be thought of as "America" and which DOES have "America" in the title. - Thessaly Danes
Traffic Houses for Everyone They do mention houses, but it aim towards the house of true and lies. - Paul Warren
Train 50 Ways To Say Goodbye There is no mention of the number 50 anywhere in the song. In fact, the only lyrics that are prominent are "Help me, help me, I'm all out of lies and ways to say you died." - Isac

The Traveling Wilburys Handle With Care The band members insert the word "me" into the title. So instead of "Handle WITH care," they say "Handle ME with care." - Isac
A Tribe Called Quest Electric Relaxation The hook is "Relax yourself, girl, please settle down" - Nat
