The band's name deprives from the Southern slang for "bouffant," which is a B-52, because it resembles the nose of a B-52 bomber rocket. Band-members Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson always used to wear large beehive wigs on their heads. This even inspired their song "Wig."
in 1994 the movie "The Flintstones", a live actor version of the classic TV cartoon series was released. The B-52s had a cameo on it playing the Flinstones theme. This version was released as a single and it made the Top 40. It was released under the name "BC-52". The movie itself was yabba-dabba-dumb but it did help Haile Berry into future stardom.

Naming a song after a barely known 90s NBA player - Band of Horses
They wrote a song called "Detlef Schrempf" after a basketball player who played in the NBA from 1985-2000. The song has nothing to do with Detlef though.
While Babs can hardly be considered a topical singer (unlike quite a few of her contemporaries), she has made no secret of her left-leaning political stance, often performing at fundraisers and other events for the U.S. Democratic Party and being an outspoken supporter of liberal causes and political figures.
This may not qualify as being known for something other than music, but in the beginning of the days of the Fox Kids Network, they used to have various public service announcements with relevant songs performed by what at the time were considered obscure bands. BNL performed a song called "The Ballad of Gordon" in a PSA promoting racial harmony, but the song doesn't seem to be on any of their albums, and there are people who have been seeking a copy of this for decades, including myself.

Being Inducted Into The Canadian Music Hall /Fame - Barenaked Ladies
They performed together at the Juno Awards ceremony in Vancouver for the first time in 9 years with all members/former members present.
The King of Bedside Manor, Intermittenly, Back, Alcohol, and The Humor of the Situation were recorded naked. The trend stopped with "Everything to Everyone" because the joke of recording naked got old.
The Barenaked Ladies were banned from perfoming at Toronto's Traditional New Years Eve Party at Nathan Phillip Square because then mayor June Rowlands felt that the band's name was sexist.
Novelty rock duo who ended nearly every one of their songs with the word "Yeah!" They may have done so as a good luck ritual, since their first and biggest hit on the Dr. Demento Show, "Fish Heads", ended that way, too!
Barney did (and still does) a lot of stuff to promote peace and to show he cares about children. Some examples are that he visits hospitals on all his tours in the US and Canada and that he made a donation to the San Diego Zoo C.R.E.S program back in the early 90s.

Not Surviving Katrina - Barry Cowsill (The Cowsills)
Barry Cowsil last spoke to his sister on August 29, 2005 shortly before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Lousiana. Several months had past before Barry's body was found under a warf and was identified through dental records. The autopsy had determined that Barry had drowned in the aftermath of the storm. He was only 51. :(
In the psychedelic extravaganza "I Am the Walrus" John states that he is just that. In the tune "Glass Onion" John says that the walrus = Paul. In 2008 a new psychedelic/techno/electronic/experimental album is released by "The Fireman". That group consists of Sir Paul and Youth, the bassist of the band Killing Joke. The 2 musicians write, sing, play all the instruments and produce it all themselves. The front page of The Fireman's website, however, states that "The Fireman Is Paul". Geddit?
Shortly after the Beatles basically split during the early 1970s John gave an interview saying that the Beatles were all "tied together" and that made them brothers. He said that he and Paul are always in a friendly "tug-of-war" when it came to songwriting. He'd write something and then Paul would try to top that, and vice versa. One example: in early 1972 there occurred a massacre of unarmed demonstrators by British occupation troops in the Northern Ireland town of Derry. Paul wrote the hit "Give Ireland Back to the Irish", which was banned by BBC radio. John wrote "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (not to be confused for the 1983 hit by the Irish band U2) and "Luck of the Irish" (with a few choice swear words). Both songs appeared on John + Yoko's next album. In 1982 Paul scored with his album "Tug-of-War" and on the title track he described the competitive spirit with his deceased Beatle buddy. That album has a few other tributes to John.

Contributing to a commonly stolen street sign - The Beatles
Thanks to the Abbey Road cover, the Abbey Road sign is one of the most stolen street signs in the world.
Nobody made a formal announcement, but Paul McCartney bade farewell to John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr by releasing a solo album, McCartney, in April 1970 after Phil Spector "ruined" his version of "The Long and Winding Road."

Being Rolling Stone magazine's #1 band - The Beatles
They were rated the best band in the Rolling Stone
Shortly after the release of their album Revolver, they played their last concert, in Candlestick Park, San Fransisco, in the summer of 1966. A mixture of wanting more recording time, the "newer" songs being harder to play live (Revolver was the first to have "experimental" and "avant-guard" stuff, especially Tomorrow Never Knows), and having had some bad experiences (especially their tour in the Philippines). They did have one last "gig" atop a roof in 1969, for their disastrous "Get Back" project (which would lead to "Let It Be"), but that was it.
She was the well-loved Hayley Lawson on Home And Away before marrying Lleyton.
Strangely, she left the show because the due dates of the baby of both Hayley & Bec didn't match up. Yes, Bec was truly pregnant when she was on her final stints as Hayley. However, Hayley was recasted and was born to a son called Noah, in memory of her late first-husband.
Note: The actor of Noah Sr., Beau Brady was Hayley's ex-boyfriend in real life before Hayley broke up with him and later met Lleyton.
Bec's baby was a girl called Mia, and Bec is now a full-time mother, with another baby on the way next year.

At the 2008 VMAs Beyonce won Video of the Year but set aside her acceptance speech to let Taylor finish her acceptance speech which had been interrupted by Kanye West hours earlier.
In 2001, she appeared in SSX Tricky, in which she co-starred with David Arquette, Billy Zane, Lucy Liu, Macy Gray, and Oliver Platt. She also appeared again, as her character appeared in later games in the series.
Bill Kaulitz, the lead singer of German rock band Tokio Hotel, apart from his voice, is known for having hair that resembles that of a Japanese manga character. I'm surprised nobody submitted this one!

Twisted Love - Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones
He claims to have had sex with 1000 women (Gene Simmons, Wilt Chamberlain - are you listening?). In 1989 he married 18-year-old singer and model Mandy Smith. They had been dating since she was 13 - with her mother's permission! On top of that, Stephen Paul - his 27-year-old son from his first marriage, was engaged to Mandy's mom! They broke up in 1990. Years later after Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith divorced in the early 90s, Mandy admitted that her and Bill first had sex when she was 14! Are you getting this?
Birthday Wish & Birthday Bash Granted - Billy Idol
Two years ago in 2010 on his 24th B-Day Michael Henrichsen begged his idol (no pun intended) to sing at his B-Day party and was let down. But through persistance and help from various music connections as well as Internet pleas his wish finally came true two years later in 2012 when Billy idol performed with Henrichsen at the Showbox SoDo Club for the musician's 26th B-Day. Henrichsen's local band opened up for him. Needless to say, Michael was overcome with emotion.

Having his hit song used as TV Show Theme Song - Billy Joel
Billy Joel's song My Life was used as the theme song for the Tom Hanks sit-com Bossom Buddies.
After receiving acclaim (but not an Oscar nomination) for her role in "Dancer In The Dark, Bjork showed up at the 2001 Academy Awards in a dress made to look like a swan, with its head and neck used as a strap to hold the dress up. Many fashion experts both praised and derided her for her fashion sense and audacity.
When the female reporter asked about Bjork's baby, she repeatedly punched the reporter while cameras were rolling. Bjork later apologized, and the reporter never pressed charges (as far as I know).

Tommy Thayer, original member of Black N'Blue, joined KISS officially in 2003 as the lead guitarist. He had previously written songs for the band, as well as being a roadie and filled in for Ace Frehley on a few occasions prior to being a full band member. He is the current "Spaceman".
They added the "182" because there was already a band called "Blink". Since the random number, Sum 41, Seven Mary Three, Matchbox 20, and other bands have taken control of this trend.
Blood Red Shoes is a two person band from Brighton, England with a boy and a girl, and that's the only thing they really have in common with The White Stripes.

In 2016, Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. The reason give for this honor was "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".
In 1979, Dylan would become the first musical artist to make the effort of being a Born-Again Christian. This would only last for five years then Dylan became Religiously Neutral.
On September 10, 2000 Paula Yates, his ex-wife, was found dead in her apartment. This was also the eve of Pixie Geldof's 10th birthday.

right now Myanmar is waging a genocidal war against the Rohingya people in the western territories. Many civilians are being raped, murdered, forced from their homes to flee from a major ethnic cleansing operation. Aung San Suu Kyi, once a prisoner of Myanmar's totalitarian government and later de facto head, has denied that anything is wrong and there that there is no genocide occurring. She and Bob Geldof were awarded the Freedom Award of the City of Dublin. Suu Kyi has done nothing to stop the ethnic cleansing or even acknowledge it. In protest Bob Geldof went to a municipal court in Dublin and gave back his award document as a protest because "she's a murderer" and he wanted no association with "somebody like that".

Britney Spears recently said she has made the "difficult decision" to leave Fox's "The X-Factor" after one season. In a statement, the pop singer said she'd had an incredible time working on the singing contest, but that it was time to get back to the studio to record. It had been widely reported that Spears and "X-Factor" were parting ways after a season in which the show's ratings fell dramatically and Spears received lackluster reviews as a panelist.
Britney, now sane and more mature (after her birthday), admitted that she handled her breakup from Kevin Featherline so much worse than Justin Timberlake.
A cell phone game created by Qplaze-RME and Sony BMG titled "Adventures of Britney Spears" was announced in December 2005 but was never released. Images and video footage of the game were released along with the game's press release.

Calling Out Her Ex-Husband In Her Music Video - Britney Spears
Unlike Pink, Britney's ex-husband , Kevin Federling, wasn't in on this joke. In fact he was the but of the joke. "Womanizer you're a womanizer, a womanizer baby. You're a womaizer baby. Y-you-you are, Y-you you are. Womanizer, womanizer, womanizer, womanizer. Well everyone gets the idea.
In 1999, Play Along Toys released the Britney Spears Doll. It was the first product ever released by this toy company. Profanity Laced Rants At Concerts - Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Bruce has ranted about everything from people throwing beer bottles at the stage to some guy passing a joint around to some moron with a laser pointer.
Bruce's rants are interesting to say the least. :)
Bruce Springsteen has always been a Democrat. He supported John Kerry in 2004 and even when Reagan wanted to use "Born in the U.S.A." for his 1984 re-election...Springsteen said no. He (Springsteen) also spoke-out about the War in Iraq as well.

Having one of his most famous songs misinterpreted - Bruce Springsteen
Bruce wrote Born In the USA about how terribly Vietnam vets were treated when they came back home and it's really dark stuff. However, Republicans have widely taken it to be a patriotic song without so much as reading the lyrics
Courtney Cox, one of the stars of Friends, appeared in Bruce Springsteen's video Dancing In The Dark. She was in the front row during Bruce's LA stop on his Born In The USA tour with her friends when Bruce offered Courtney his hand, pulled her up on stage, and started dancing with her. "Hey baby!"

Silenced in London by Curfew - Bruce Springsteen & Paul McCartney
Concert organizers Live Nation pulled the plug (by police demand) on rock stars Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney after the pair defied the sound curfew at London's Hyde Park, silencing their mics at the tailend of the concert. Having exceeded the park's sound curfew by over 30 mins the plug was pulled after Springsteen and McCartney sang two Beatles songs- "I Saw Her Satnding There" and "Twist and Shout". London's flamboyant mayor, Boris Johnson, said that the should have been allowed to play on...
Most of their lyrics come from the point of one man. Keeping this in mind, most of their lyrics have to do with getting revenge on a woman who he cared deeply for and thought he was in love with, as she cheated on him, catching her cheating, seeking revenge on her lover, being lonely without her, etc.
In 1968, The Byrds performed at The Grand Old Opry. A Theater which is for concerts that play Country and Folk music. When The Byrds would play there, they were heckled and played a different song rather than the song they were supposed to play!
