A spokesman for R. Kelly says the R&B singer is suffering complications from throat surgery and will miss promotional appearances for the his new album and memoir. Kelly had surgery last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords. Kelly's new album "Write Me Back" was released recently with his memoir due to be released soon.
In 2009's "Madden NFL 10", Rage Against the Machine's "Guerrilla Radio" made an appearance in the soundtrack. Unfortunately, the company thought that they could replace words like "f***" and "hell" with other words in the song.
I was in a Target store and looking around in the electronics section. A TV was on and it was constantly repeating play of the "Guerilla Radio" video by RATM. The TV was equipped with a "reading word display" device for the hearing impaired. The lyrics to the song were being displayed - that means that the repeated chorus "Lights out! Guerilla radio! Turn that @*#& up!" had the cuss words replaced with symbols to show the customer that you can program your TV to show all the profanity or you can filter it out. A "capitalist" department store chain using this "socialist" band's music video to promote its product to show that can set it so you can watch a program with the swear words either intact or filtered as per your pleasure. Hows that grab ya?
The Communist government of Yugoslavia stepped out of power in January 1990 and the almost-constantly touring Ramones jumped on the opportunity and played some gigs in that country in 1990 and 1991, merely months before the violent breakup wars began.
Joey Ramone died of lymph cancer one day shy of his 50th birthday in the spring of 2001. Dee Dee Ramone died from too much H in 2002. Johnny Ramone succumbed to prostrate cancer in the summer of 2004. Tommy, Richie, Elvis, C.J. and Marky are still living.
they were bored with what the radio was playing. They wanted to bring the fun back to rock'n'roll. They took the sounds of hard rock, glam, the 3-chord guitar arrangements pioneered by CCR, Roxy Music, New York Dolls and more. They wore the rebellious look of leather jackets, T-shirts, ripped jeans, tennis shoes and the longest hair. Johnny Ramone's hairdo was a warped version of the Beatles "mop top". The term "punk rock" was thrown about by critics like Dave Marsh in the early 70s and the Ramones are considered to be the first punk rock band.
When I first saw the Ramones in August 1990, Joey Ramone gave a brief between song introduction by saying that "There's a pretty big problem plaguing America today. It's called "censorship", and we are The Ramones and we believe in total artistic freedom and freedom of expression. Being that we are considered to be the first punk rock band, we say, "FUCK THE PMRC!!!!". They let their stance be clear a few years later with their song "Censorshit", which ironically doesn't have the title word or any cuss words in the lyrics.
Randy Jackson is vacating his post as judge on "American Idol", a spot he's held since 2002. He may still play a role in the show as mentor to contestants or some other position, but no word on what that capacity would be. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez had already left the show and only Mariah Carey has been confirmed as an official replacement judge. Nicki Minaj is the rumored second replacement... although no official confirmation yet.
Country singer Randy Travis has pleaded not guilty to simple assault and faces trial on March 11, 2013 in a Dallas-area municipal court. Plano police cited Travis following an Aug 23rd incident in a church parking lot in which he allegedly intervened in an argument involving a woman he knows and her estranged husband. Nobody was hurt. Travis had also been arrested previously on Aug 7th in N Texas on charges of driving while intoxicated and retaliation or obstruction, for allegedly threatening officers. Travis told WFAA-TV concerning his legal troubles that people "shouldn't believe everything they read or hear."
Randy Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated and threatening law enforcement officers after the country singer crashed his car in Grayson County, Texas, and was found naked and combative at the scene, officials said. It was the second Texas arrest this year for Travis, who was cited in February for public intoxication. Travis was released on $21,500 bail from the jail in Sherman, about 60 miles north of Dallas. Blood test results are pending since Travis refused sobriety tests. He has also been involved in messy courtroom dramas with his ex-wife. Travis was divorced from Elizabeth Travis in 2010 after 19 years of marriage. He is currently facing charges of DUI as well as retaliation and obstruction.
Randy Travis pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated recently in a case that began last summer when the country music star was found naked after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am near Tioga, Texas. Travis received two years of probation, a $2000 fine, and a 180-day suspended jail sentence. If he doesn't successfully complete the probation, he will face the jail time. He was ordered to spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment facility, complete 100 hrs of community service, and to have an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he operates while on probation.
Ratt were the first Glam Metal band to hire Playboy models to appear on their album covers. A lot of other bands copied this idea, and it became one of the iconic things about 1980's music.

Knighthood! - Ray Davies (Kinks)
Ray Davies of The Kinks recently got knighted by the Queen of Great Britain for his inciteful contributions to music.
On the cover of this 1988 EP the band are crossing the same street (Abbey Road) that the Beatles did on their "Abbey Road" album cover in 1969. What's notoriously different this time is that the Chili Peppers are walking nude with those famous long tube socks covering their ding dongs!
In "Especially in Michigan", the line "A rainy Lithuanian dancing with an Indian" is about his great-grandfather (who's from Lithuania) and his mother (who has some Mohican blood)
RHCP vocalist/lyricist Anthony Kiedis has Mohican Native American blood. The defiant snarling 1989 song "Johnny, Kick A Hole In The Sky" is a crude explicit display of outrage against the 500 year + genocide of Native American peoples and a prideful stance of Kiedis' heritage.
The songs "Dani California" and "Around the World" each mention more than five states, as "Californication" and "Especially in Michigan" only mention one.
REM's 1994 Monster Tour was affectionately dubbed as The Surgery Tour due to Bill Berry's brain surgery, Michael Stipe's hernia surgery, and Mike Mills' appendectomy.
At the beginning of the song 'Tough Guys' there's a sampled snippet of a Little Rascals episode where Alfalfa is having a picnic with a girl. Sparky asks Alfalfa about him being in their 'He-Man Woman Hater's Club' and the latter says 'I'm sorry but I have to live my own life'. On stage live singer Kevin Cronin and the guitarist re-enact and lip-synch the dialog before the music starts up, just like on the 'High Infidelity' album.
The band has been performing since 1972 (on stage, in video, on recordings), yet have never publicly revealed who actually is in the band. In all public appearances, the "band" wears bizarre masks and costumes and only "speak" through their representatives.

Playing the drums with only one arm - Rick Allen of Def Leppard
After a street racing accident in 1984 caused him to lose his left arm, a despondent Allen and Def Leppard singer Joe Elliot teamed with engineers to develop a special drum set where Allen could use his right arm and left foot to play on the album "Hysteria".

Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash on December 31, 1985 in Texas. News reports stated that the plane had crashed due largely in part to drug use on the plane but Ricky's children have always maintained that the crash was caused by a faulty heater.
Rihanna got a bloody knee during a tussle at a London club when the reveler allegedly threw a bottle in her direction. Rihanna was in town to debut her River Island collection during London Fashion Week. After the show, Rihanna hit the Box club in London to celebrate. As she was leaving, a partygoer threw a bottle of British energy drink at her, yelling something about RiRi getting back together with controversial Chris Brown. The bottle missed, but she scratched her knee on a metal shop gate while dodging it, the Daily Mail reports.
Rihanna hugged, then briefly kissed ex-boyfriend Chris Brown just moments after her big win at the MTV VMAs for her hit "We Found Love." MTV showed the grainy footage shot from a distance on it website. Rihanna split from Brown in 2009 after Brown attacked her, leaving her bruised and battered. This new incident begs the question- does Rihanna have a Love-Hate relationship with Brown?
Rihanna says if dating Chris Brown is a mistake, she's OK with that. The singer tells Rolling Stone in an interview that dating Brown makes her happy and "if it's a mistake, it's a mistake." She adds that she's ready to go public with her singer-boyfriend. Four years ago, Brown attacked Rihanna and was charged with a felony. But rumors about their relationship emerged after the singers collaboration on songs and appeared in photos together. Rihanna says she knows thta her history with 23 year old Brown is "not the cutest puzzle in the world." The 24 year old also vows that Brown is "disgusted" by what he did in the past. She syas the two have matured and they know "exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that."
In addition to founding the Believe Foundation which inspires and protects children, Rihanna also supports UNICEF, the Red Cross, and MusiCares. She has also worked with Mark Sanchez to raise donations to fight leukemia.
Pop star Rihanna has given $1.75 million to a hospital in her Caribbean homeland of Barbados in memory of her late grandmother. Rihanna says the donation to buy three pieces of medical equipment was her way of "giving back to Barbados." She made the comments during a ceremony with relatives at the island's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The hospital's radiotherapy unit has been renamed the Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine after Rihanna's grandmother who died in June 2012.
Rihanna, under her real name of Robyn Fenty, is suing NY-based LLP and two accountants for misconduct and malfeasance, culminating in overall losses on her 2009 Last Girl In Earth tour despite large revenue. She says she hired the accountants in 2005 when she was a 16 year old from Barbados launching her career. She claims that LLP and the two accountants lost her tens of millions of dollars in revenue. The lawsuit was filed July 5th in federal court in Manhatten.
The London Fire Brigade says Rihanna was among 300 people evacuated from the luxury Corinthia Hotel after an early morning fire in an elevator shaft on the 7th Floor. Rihanna tweeted the news posting a pic of the fire engine and these words: "Roamin da streets since 6am! Fyah in da telly". She wasn't injured...
Two LAPD police officers won't be criminally charged alleging that they leaked a photo of pop star Rihanna's bruised and beaten face after she was assaulted by singer Chris Brown. Officers Blanca Lopez and Rebecca Reyes may still be fired for taking the crime scene evidence, photographing it with a cell phone and then e-mailing it from a LAPD computer to a personal computer. From there, phone records indicate it got to TMZ. The photo shocked fans and prompted a national conversation about domestic violence after it spread through the media. Since no monetary link has been traced to Lopez and Reyes, insufficient proof has kept them from being charged but a disciplinary panel will decide their fate in August 2012. Rihanna canceled her Grammy performance in 2009 after the incident.

Regrets that his band ended on such a sour note - Rik Emmet (Triumph)

The former Beatle marked his 72nd birthday on July 7th by holding a "peace and love" moment at noon. He asked people worldwide to do the same thing at 12 o'clock in their time zones. The idea came to him in 2008 and he has been doing it ever since. The idea has caught on via the internet, Starr receiving positive comments from Europe, Asia, and other places in the world that have taken up the practice. Starr is currently touring the US with his 13th All Starr Band.
Quiet Riot were really popular in the early 1980s, but Riot, who were part of the NWOBHM, never achieved much chart success, however, one of the latter bands' albums, "Born In America" attempted to explain the difference between the two groups, as Riot had been on hiatus during the peak of Quiet Riot's career.

After the death of bassist Kenny MacLean two years prior Mark had been making up a million and one excuses for not returning to the recording studio. Rob is a producer and he'd say things like "I booked some time in the recording studio, NO EXCUSES!"
After Kenny MacLean's death in 2008 from a massive heart attack Platinum Blonde members Mark Holmes, Sergio Galli, and Chris Steffler recruited Rob Laidlaw, who previously played bass in Honeymoon Suite, and was a good friend of Kenny's to play bass for Platinum Blonde.
Everytime Mark announces Rob's name he remarks on how much the band misses Kenny.
After Rob's stint in Honeymoon Suite ended he went back to his musical roots becoming the substitute pianist for the Toronto production of Phantom of the Opera for 20 full performances.
When Rob Preuss was 15 he joined the Spoons but he needed permission from Liquor Control, The Musicians Union and his mother to be in the bars and the clubs where the Spoons were playing The contract that Was signed by Rob's mother stipulated that he wasn't allowed to be at the bar area or consume any alcoholic beverages. That he was only allowed in the backstage and on stage areas. This contract was for musicians who are under age but still wanted to play with a band.
After 5 years with Spoons Rob Preuss who was 20 years old at the time decided that he needed to move on and try other things. Derrick Ross also decided that he needed to move on.
In "Twisted Metal 4", you could play as Rob Zombie. His car was called "Dragula" after one of his songs. Some of his songs, including "Dragula" were in the game, as well as the third game, released before it.

Being The Subject Of The Song I Believe - Robert Wyatt
Robert Wyatt was an idol for many musicians including Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears who dedicated the song I Beileve to him. In the liner notes of Songs From The Big Chair it reads "To Robert Wyatt.... If he's listening."

Being A Complete Recluse - Roger Taylor (Duran Duran)
After he quit the band in 1985 Roger had become a complete and total recluse taking a 20 year sabbatical and staying out of the spotlight until 2004 when the band reunited.
I'm not going to lie, Roger Waters is probably one of the best songwriters that's ever existed in music next to the Lennon/McCartney partnership. But, he's always needed to cool his ego down just a little bit. Especially after he filed a lawsuit against his ex-band, Pink Floyd, for carrying on the name without him. (Even though it was perfectly alright to carry on without Syd under the name.) He's even claimed that he was, in fact, the "John Lennon" of Pink Floyd and proclaimed that he is: "One of the best five sognwriters to come out of English music since the war." Interesting stuff...

Weird And Out Of Nowhere Dance Sequences - Roland Orzabal
In the early videos of Tears For Fears Roland Orzabal was known for his weird dance sequences that seemed to come from out of nowhere. In the videos for Mad World, and Change, Roland can be seen providing a variety of weird dance sequences that seemed to have come from out of nowhere. Even though he wasn't very good at dancing he was still very good at entertaining us.
Roland Orzabal used to have a very attractive overbite. At least I thought that his overbite was attractive. Someone on You Tube told me that he must have had his teeth capped because I knew there was something that was different about Roland when I saw the Closest Thing To Heaven video in which he smiled at the camera and no overbite. I didn't realize just how much I missed Rolly's overbite until I saw that one video.
On July 12, 2012 the Stones celebrated their 50th Anniversary at London's Somerset House vowing that the band will stay together and are rehearsing for new live shows. Most members are now in their 60s and 70s but have no plans to retire yet. Mick Jagger at 68 is still the band's frontman. A retrospective photo exhibit of the Stones history opens in London to the public today and charts the band's history from the very first photograph taken in 1963 all the way through their career.
Singer Mick Jagger has rooted for Portugal, Italy, England and other soccer teams at the 2014 World Cup and they've all been thrashed by the opposing teams. A curse or a bad voodoo-like spell? Mick also loves Brazilians, having fathered one 15 years ago with former Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez. Since the soccer teams he's been rooting for have all flopped in the tournament, you could say that Mick Jagger can't get no soccer satisfaction!
In between songs Mick Jagger talks like a British "bloke" but when he sings he snarls the vocals. Also during nearly every song Keith Richards is smoking a cigaret while playing his guitar. Then after each song he goes over to the drum platform and lights another cigaret up, after having a swig of beer.
They started out in 1962 as a blues-rock and rockabilly band, and they altered their sound to create a whole new genre. They are the first hard rock band, achieving an accomplishment of far reaching consequences. This paved the way for other rock styles such as glam/glitter rock, heavy metal, country rock, punk rock and more.
Last month the Rolling Stones set off speculation that they're scheduled to play this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival after a fan noticed that the venerable English band's mobile app included a listing for a mid-April concert date in Indio. Now the festival has added more weight to those rumors with a photo posted recently on its Facebook page. As seen at the top of their post, the photo depicts what appears to be a large round rock- a rolling stone, in other words- in the middle of Indio's Empire Polo Club, where Coachella takes place. The 3-day show will run April 12-14 and repeat the following weekend Apr 19-21. The official lineup will be announced in late January, but the Stones have thus far denied the booking...
The Rolling Stones have been added to the list of artists performing at the superstorm Sandy benefit concert dubbed "12-12-12" in NY City's Madison Square Garden. Producers of the show said recently that they have raised $30 mil that will be distributed to storm victims in NY, NJ, and Connecticut through the Robin Hood Foundation. Other artists performing: Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Eric Clapton, Eddie Vedder, Billy Joel, Roger Waters, and Chris Martin.
Two British newspapers say Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has married his fiance Sally Humphries at a ceremony recently at London's Dorchester Hotel. The Sun and the Daily Mirror carried photographs of the 65 year old rocker in a dark blue suit and his 34 year old bride in a traditional white gown and a clutch of matching white flowers. The newspapers said the guests included Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster as well as ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell.
Ronnie James Dio was a member of The Prophets, Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and his own solo project, Dio, as well as contributing to songs by other artists, such as Tenacious D.

The couple had been engaged since 2010.
I saw RUSH play this past September and they played a killer electric show. 1. One of the songs they played was the early 1980 hit "The Spirit of Radio", which has a reggae-like interlude where Geddy sings about "and the words of the prophets ..." and "echoes with the sounds...". During this reggae-ish part the overhead lights were shining red, yellow and green - colors associated with reggae music and culture. 2. the last song of the evening was a medley from their epic album / rock opus "2112". What year are we in now? How many years until 2112?
On the night the band recorded some sounds to be used for the beginning of the song "Witch Hunt". They gussied up and went outside the studio with a tape recorder and some whiskey to keep warm while out in the snowy Toronto nighttime chill. They made some wolfish howling noises and such for X amount of minutes and went back in. Later when they were mixing, distorting, looping and playing the sounds backwards a studio tech came to them and said for them to watch TV in another room. It was December 8, 1980. John Lennon of the Beatles had been shot and killed by a "deranged fan(atic)" in New York City.
